Coach Ben "Benny" Benevides was a foundational pillar of Portsmouth football, instrumental in initiating the town's youth football program over 50 years ago. His enduring dedication as a coach and mentor left an indelible mark on generations of athletes. Coach Ben's lifelong commitment to Portsmouth football and his philosophy of hard work, accountability, and joy has helped shape the athletic landscape of our town and to develop our winning tradition. 

Following his passing in June 2024, the Portsmouth Gridiron Football Club established the 1st Annual Coach Ben Benevides Memorial Golf Tournament at the Green Valley Country Club. The tournament was named in his honor because he perfectly embodied the core values that the football community strives to instill in young athletes. Coach Ben didn’t just coach kids; he mentored younger coaches transitioning through the youth and high school ranks, passing down his wisdom and love for the game. 

This years Golf Tournament will be held at Green Valley Country Club on July 31st, noon shotgun. Please join us after for dinner, awards and silent auction.
